Whip out your skinny jeans, black horn rimmed glasses and Nintendo Entertainment Systems, Its a SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD MOVIE REVIEW!
Yup, Just got back from the old cinema. And for $18.50, it was reasonably worth it. This will be a movie that will have hipsters and nerds the world over quoting, not to mention T-Shirt making, for decades to come. Similar to "The Dude Abides" or even anything from Juno. Have I mentioned that i didnt like Juno? I dont like Juno.
EVERYTHING BELOW -MAY- CONTAIN SPOILERS. BUT NOTHING YOU WOULDNT ALREADY REALLY KNOW FROM SEEING THE ADS ON TV. OR THE INTERNET. OR THE URINALS AT THAT TRUCK STOP ON HIGHWAY I-9. The ads are fuckin everywhere.
Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is based on the comic book series of the same name. Scott (George Michael Bluth... or Michael Cera), a bass player for an indie rock band called The Sex Bob-Oms (Super Mario brothers), who falls in love with the literal girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers(Lucy Mclaine from Die Hard 4.0... or Mary Elizabeth Winstead), all the while dating a chinese girl, Knives Chau (Ellen Wong), who's 17. Yeah. 17. Thats illegal in some states. And not just to your cousin.
Its all very innocent, honestly. Apparently having a chinese girlfriend makes you cool in this surrealist hipster nerds wet dream. Even if shes 17 years old and never kissed a boy before.
Anywho, Scott starts dating Ramona who has 7 Evil Ex's who all like to explode into coinage (ala any nintendo game ever made in the 80s) whenever they get their butts kicked. Ranging from bollywood-esque guy-liner wearing douchebags, to the always sexy ladies. Yes, Ramona went through a lesbian phase with the always lovely Ann Veal from Arrested Development. Its good to see George Michael Bluth reunited with Ann Veal WHILE I WAIT FOR THE FUCKING ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT MOVIE TO COME OUT. But back to the .. uh.. review?
This is Kenny Loggins. Hes here, and has nothing to do with this review.
In all honesty, my nerdish background set me up for knowing all of the gaming references as well as the humor which is really a delight. Its a very witty movie and on more than one occassion, i was LITERALLY LOLLING, but mostly it was chuckles. Anyone without an understanding or liking of nerd culture will get the comedy in it, but may not enjoy it on multiple levels like the d-bags do.
The dialogue was snappy and fun and Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) really knows how to get the comedy out of his actors. Add in some flashy special effects and Mary Elizabeth Winstead in her underwear and you've got yourself a great little movie. Hell, even Michael Cera doesnt do too badly and is more than likeable.
Kieran Culkin is proving himself to be a far superior actor than his brother. Thats right. Macauley Culkins little brother is the gay best friend of Scott Pilgrim, complete with offbeat bravado and beer swilling brilliance.
Mix up these characters into a vat, add in some solid acting from Brandon Routh (as a very funny vegan), Chris Pine (douchey skateboarder) and Jason Schwartzman (Music Producer and D-bag king of the elves), fill it up with creamy indie rock and you've got yourself a gold mine. A Comedy Goldmine!
All in all, it was great. Definitely one to see, 4 out of 5 star rating. 9 out of 10 rubber chickens. 3 out of 4 michellin stars as well. Just for good measure.
As I mentioned though, its going to be quoted a fair bit in the future so you might as well go see it now. Dont bother downloading it as theres some darkish spots that wouldnt show up on a dodgey camcorder movie. Plus, dont steal from Edgar Wright, he's ace.
PS. Im in love with Anna Kendrick who plays Scotts sister, Stacey. She couldnt be any cuter if you tied a bow around her and put her in a bed full of puppies.

http://io9.com/5608850/a-quantum-leap-movie-is-getting-made-says-scott-bakula
This has been a rumour for the last decade, even with the point that the new Sam Beckett would be the current Sam Beckett's (Scott Bakula) daughter, leaping to find her father or so.
Unless that was some kind of weird fan fiction that I read somewhere on the interwebs. Either way, ill believe it when I see it, but its still some great news if Scott is actually confirming that Donald P. Bellisario is doing something about it.
Not to mention the SyFy reboot looks more promising.

I was never a huge Alien Nation person. Just didn't grab me way back in the 90s. Yeah, thats right. Im Old.

This is a short film by Spike Jonze who is one of my favourite directors, but mostly for his music videos (sabotage, its oh so quiet, etc). Its a 30 minute short film that was released for free on the internet and is easilly one of the best short films ive ever seen and even one of the best films ive seen this year.
Go to the website, click on the ticketing office and watch the movie for free, streaming over the internet. Its well worth the bandwidth.
Im Here is a short story about two robots living in Los Angeles that meet and fall in love. The way that Jonze has portrayed the involvement of robots as other regular people (that arent allowed to drive cars) is just amazing. The emotions he can display with simple gestures, words and movements of the mouth and eyes is acting gold and far better than anything you can find in a Twilight movie.
I highly reccomend you watch it. Afterall its free. Pass it on to the rest of the world too.

Yes my nerds and nerdettes, the movie trailer from Comic-Con 2010 for THOR is here :
And boy howdy, sexified. Not only that, it has the delightful Kat Dennings in it, who is crazier than a loon and a woman i can safely say that i would be quite happy to bring home to any family member, only to see the looks on their faces whenever she said something weirder than did.
So dreamy.
EDIT: hrm. looks like the embed doesnt want to work that well, so go here (which is where i got it from, should have mentioned that earlier) - http://www.aintitcool.com/node/45950

I didnt really like 300 or Watchmen, but this.. this tickles me giblets. I dont mind me a bit of Emily Browning action, especially as a long haired blonde. She has that weird cuteness to her, plus she's a Melbourne girl. Hometown Pride, Yo.
The promo stills have been out for about a week now or so, but this is the first time i saw the trailer and hot damn it looks sexy.

Ok, everyone knows my hatred for M Night Shyamalan and his "movies" (or as i like to term them "The toilet paper that i use to wipe the buttcracks of insane homeless people with diarrhea"), but this looks decent.
Although, im sure he'll screw it up and it will be the cop thats trying to get the doors open that is the devil or some crap. Or its the elevator itself.

The awesomeness cannot be contained. Thanks to TrailerAddicts.
When i saw the original one (the fake one between movies in Grindhouse), i was instantly smitten. I freaking love Danny Trejo simply because he looks badass.. even in a tracksuit (in fanboys).
-Rick
Sure i didnt believe the rumour, but still, ZOMG.
